AHAVAH is a Hebrew word meaning "Love". We believe love is the center of servitude. Ahavah began with a vision from sisters Sonja and Clara.
After observing their first birth at the ages of 15 and 16 years old, they discovered their passion for birth and the desire to create change around birth inequalities.
With more than 20 years of service to women in the community, Sonja
and Clara became professionally educated, trained and certified on various birthing topics. Ahavah BirthWorks works to build strong black families by supporting mothers and families holistically during pregnancy up to two years postpartum.
Sonja completed training through DONA and The Common Sense Childbirth. Sonja has received her certifications as a Doula (Birth and Postpartum), Perinatal Educator and Breastfeeding Educator. In addition, Sonja is certified in newborn resuscitation, midwife assistance and formerly owned a home daycare. She is a wife and proud mother of 4 children.
Clara received her training through The Common Sense Childbirth where she received her certifications as a Doula ( Birth and Postpartum), Perinatal Educator and Breastfeeding Educator. She will also be trained through International Center For Traditional Childbearing (ICTC) as a full circle doula that focuses on training with a multicultural, historical, and traditional perspectives. She will also be trained to train others through this model.
Clara has an extensive background in Community Organizing as well as Education. She is a wife and mother of 6 beautiful children.
